The AirPhysio Low Lung Capacity Device is designed for people with low lung capacity to assist in the management of asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis and recovery from colds and flu. It is also suitable for individuals with low lung capacity due to advanced age, respiratory muscle weakness or severe respiratory conditions.
Two Resistance Settings
The Low Lung device comes with two interchangeable ball bearings to suit different needs:
-
Average Lung Capacity Ball Bearing — Medium resistance, suitable for people with reasonable fitness or mild lung conditions such as asthma or COPD.
-
Low Lung Capacity Ball Bearing — Low resistance, designed for people with severe respiratory conditions and significantly reduced lung capacity.
How to Use
- Take a deep abdominal breath and fill your lungs completely.
- Hold your breath for 2–3 seconds.
- Place the AirPhysio device in your mouth and exhale through it at a reasonably fast but consistent pace for 3–5 seconds until your lungs are empty. Do not blow too hard too quickly — over-exerting your lung muscles may cause chest tightness.
- Adjust the device so the cap faces the ceiling and tilt it until you feel maximum vibrations in your chest. Keep your cheeks stiff to help amplify the effect.
- After exhaling, you may feel mucus accumulating near the top of your lungs or at the back of your throat. If so, initiate a cough to expel it. If not, the mucus will continue working up naturally and may be swallowed.
- Repeat steps 1–5 approximately 2 times per minute for up to 5 minutes, taking two deep breaths between each session to reduce the chance of feeling lightheaded.
Note: Most people can get the device oscillating without too much effort. If you struggle initially, persevere — once your lungs are at optimal capacity you should be able to lift the ball bearing slightly off the cone and feel it oscillating. The ball bearings are interchangeable to allow you to adjust resistance as your lung capacity improves.
