Capasal Therapeutic Shampoo is a medicated shampoo for dry, scaly and itchy scalp conditions, including seborrhoeic dermatitis, severe dandruff (pityriasis capitis), psoriasis and cradle cap. In Ireland, Capasal is an authorised pharmacy medicine.

Its triple-active formula combines Salicylic Acid, Coconut Oil and Distilled Coal Tar to loosen scales, soften the scalp and help relieve itching.

Active Ingredients

  • Salicylic Acid 0.5% w/w: a mild keratolytic that helps loosen and remove scaly, flaky skin from the scalp.
  • Coconut Oil 1.0% w/w: an emollient and softening agent that helps moisturise and lubricate dry, scaly areas.
  • Distilled Coal Tar 1.0% w/w: provides anti-itch and keratoplastic activity to help manage symptoms associated with scaly scalp disorders.

How to Use

Wet the hair thoroughly. Apply a small amount of shampoo directly to the scalp and massage thoroughly using the fingertips. Leave on for a few minutes, then remove as much lather as possible with your hands before rinsing.

Repeat if necessary and rinse thoroughly. Use Capasal once or twice weekly until the condition improves, followed by occasional use as necessary, in line with the current Irish-authorised directions.

Important Information

Keep the shampoo and lather away from the eyes. If the condition has not improved after four weeks or becomes worse, stop using Capasal and consult a doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
