Daktarin 2% Cutaneous Powder is a pharmacist-recommended antifungal powder for athlete’s foot, jock itch, sweat rash, and nappy rash. It treats the fungus and the bacteria that often come with it, while keeping moisture-prone areas dry to support healing.

Key Benefits

  • Pharmacist recommended
  • Treats fungal AND associated bacterial infections
  • Suitable for adults, children, and babies
  • Can be used on broken skin
  • No prescription needed

What Is Daktarin Powder?

Daktarin 2% Cutaneous Powder is a medicated antifungal powder for fungal skin infections and the bacterial infections that often accompany them — on the feet, hands, groin, skin folds, trunk, and outer ear, as well as for nappy rash.

The active ingredient, miconazole nitrate, works in two ways: it destroys the fungus causing the infection, and tackles some of the bacteria that frequently grow alongside it. At the same time, the powder base absorbs moisture and keeps the skin dry — because fungal infections thrive in damp conditions and struggle to heal if the area stays moist.

Suitable for adults and children of all ages. Available without a prescription.

Did You Know? Treat Your Shoes Too, Not Just Your Feet

Athlete’s foot doesn’t just live on your skin — it survives in your socks and shoes long after treatment starts. Dusting Daktarin Powder into your socks, shoes, and clothing that touch the affected area is one of the most overlooked steps in clearing an infection for good.

Pairs perfectly with Daktarin Cream for a complete day-and-night treatment routine.

How to Use

  1. Wash the affected area and dry it thoroughly
  2. Sprinkle the powder onto the infected skin and surrounding area once or twice daily
  3. Dust the powder into socks, shoes, and any clothing that touches the affected area to help prevent re-infection
  4. Wash your hands after applying and change socks frequently
  5. Continue treatment until the skin has fully healed — do not stop as soon as symptoms improve

When using both cream and powder, apply each product once daily. For external use only. Do not swallow. If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

Who Should Not Use Daktarin Powder

  • Anyone allergic to miconazole, other azole antifungals, or any ingredient (including talc)
  • Avoid contact with the eyes and face — particularly babies’ faces
  • Stop use and seek medical advice if irritation or sensitivity occurs

Pharmacist’s Note

“Athlete’s foot and sweat rash are two of the most common things we treat, and the biggest reason people don’t fully clear them is reinfection — usually from their own socks and shoes. Daktarin Powder is one of the few products that lets you treat the skin and the footwear at the same time. If the affected area is also cracked or sore, I’d recommend using the cream alongside it — they work well as a pair.†Anne Harty Ballyduff Pharmacy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Daktarin Powder used for?
Fungal skin infections such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, sweat rash, and fungal nappy rash — particularly where a drying effect supports healing.

Daktarin Powder vs Cream — What’s the Difference?
Both contain miconazole. The cream treats and soothes cracked, sore skin. The powder treats while keeping the area dry and can be dusted into socks and shoes. Many people use both together.

Can I Use It for Athlete’s Foot?
Yes. Apply to clean, dry feet and between the toes, and dust some into socks and shoes to help prevent re-infection.

Can It Be Used for Jock Itch?
Yes. The drying action makes it particularly useful for the groin and other skin folds.

Is It Safe for Babies and Nappy Rash?
Yes. It can be used in children of all ages. Because it contains talc, avoid inhalation and keep it away from the baby’s face.

Do I Need a Prescription?
No. Daktarin Powder is available without prescription and is supplied under the supervision of a pharmacist.

How Long Should I Keep Using It?
Continue treatment until the skin has completely healed, even after symptoms improve. Stopping too early can allow the infection to return.

Daktarin Powder is for external use on the skin only. Always read the label and the Patient Information Leaflet before use. If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to your doctor or pharmacist. This page does not replace professional medical advice.
