Microlax Rectal Solution is a fast-acting micro-enema used to relieve constipation in adults and children aged 3 years and over. It acts locally in the rectum to soften hard, compacted stool and lubricate the bowel, allowing for a comfortable and normal bowel movement — typically within 5 to 15 minutes.
Microlax acts locally, meaning there is a low risk of dependence and limited side effects. It is also suitable for use prior to surgical or diagnostic procedures, or in obstetrics prior to delivery.

- Softens hard, compacted stool simply and hygienically
- Acts locally in the rectum with low risk of dependence
- Suitable for adults and children aged 3 years and over
How to Use
- Lie on your side with knees drawn up, or sit on the toilet.
- Pull or twist the cap off the tube.
- Squeeze a small drop of liquid onto the nozzle to lubricate if desired.
- Insert the full length of the nozzle into the rectum.
- Gently squeeze the tube until empty.
- Keep squeezing as you withdraw the nozzle to prevent the solution being drawn back in.
- Wait 5–15 minutes for the laxative to work — remain near a toilet.
Always use a fresh tube each time. No lubricant is required as a drop of the solution is sufficient.
Side Effects
No side effects have been reported at normal doses. Excessive use may cause diarrhoea and fluid loss, which should be treated symptomatically.
