Panadol Night — Pain Relief That Helps You Sleep
Panadol Night combines paracetamol with diphenhydramine, a sedating antihistamine, to relieve night-time pain that's keeping you awake — including headache, backache, muscular or rheumatic pain, period pain, and toothache — while helping you drift off to sleep. For bedtime use only.
Key Benefits
- Night-time pain relief that helps you sleep
- Paracetamol plus a sedating antihistamine (diphenhydramine)
- For bedtime use only
- Suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over
- Pharmacist recommended
What Is Panadol Night?
Panadol Night is designed specifically for those nights when pain is preventing rest. The diphenhydramine component works alongside paracetamol to help you settle and fall asleep, addressing both the pain and the sleeplessness it causes. It is not a general-purpose daytime painkiller.
How to Use Panadol Night
For bedtime use only. Adults and children aged 12 and over:
- Take 2 tablets about 20 minutes before bedtime
- Do not take more than 2 tablets in 24 hours
- Do not use for more than 7 nights in a row without seeing your doctor
- If you also take paracetamol during the day, do not exceed 4,000mg total in 24 hours
Who Should Not Use Panadol Night
- Anyone allergic to paracetamol, diphenhydramine, or any other ingredient
- Anyone who has taken another paracetamol-containing medicine in the last 4 hours
- Anyone with porphyria
- Children under 12 years of age
Speak to your pharmacist first if you have liver or kidney problems, glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or breathing difficulties.
Warnings & Precautions
- Contains paracetamol — do not take with any other paracetamol-containing product
- Do not take with other antihistamine medicines, including those in cough, cold, or skin products
- Causes drowsiness — do not drive after taking; avoid alcohol
- If you take too much, seek medical advice immediately, even if you feel well — paracetamol overdose can cause delayed liver damage
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Do not use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Possible Side Effects
Possible effects include daytime drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, or constipation. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur. If side effects are severe or persistent, seek medical advice.
Pharmacist's Note
"Panadol Night is a good option specifically for pain that's disrupting sleep. The key thing to flag is the paracetamol limit — it's easy to forget you've already taken some during the day and accidentally exceed the 4,000mg (8 tablet) total. It also shouldn't be combined with other antihistamines, including those in cough and cold products, or other paracetamol-containing medicines." Anne Harty Ballyduff Pharmacy
